Mojola Akinyemi
Mojola Akinyemi (she/her) is a theatremaker and filmmaker, creating works for stage and screen. Her debut play, Great Mother – Iya Ayaba was long listed for the Mustapha Matura Award in 2021, the Bruntwood Playwriting competition in 2022, and the Women’s Playwriting Award in 2023. She was a member of the Royal Court Introductory Writer’s Programme for Autumn 2022, and the Old Vic Theatremakers Programme for 2022/2023. Her second full-length play imaginary natural beings enjoyed a successful run with positive reviews and sold-out performances for VAULT Festival 2023 and Camden Fringe 2023.
Mojola is an alumni of the 2021 BFI Film Academy x BAFTA Mentorship Program and the BFI Film Academy x Lux Artists Programme. Her student short, Ferret won the Other Brother Film Fund competition. Her most recent screenplay, baby (formerly ‘mary mary magdalene’) was shortlisted for the Watersprite Screenplay Competition 2023 and is currently in development. She is a current member of the Momentum programme run by We Are Parable, and she is the founder of the creative collective Tigers, Not Daughters.
