What is the Short Cut Film Fund?
The Short Cut Film Fund provides the opportunity for aspiring young filmmakers to develop their creative portfolio. Awardees receive a grant of £1000 to create a 5 min short film. They also receive tailored mentorship to support your creative development as well as a 121 sessions with BFI NETWORK talent executives.

Brioni Farren
Short Cut Film Fund 24-25 Awardee
Brioni Farren (she/her), a budding writer based in Oxford, has honed her craft through training at prestigious institutions such as the National Film and Television School, the British Film Institute, and the National Theatre. She is an alumna of the 2022 BFI Film Academy x BAFTA Mentorship Program and is part of the 2023-24 cohort of We Are Parable’s Momentum programme. Brioni also serves on the Youth Advisory Board at BIFA.
Ciara Honey
Short Cut Film Fund 24-25 Awardee
Ciara Honey (she/her) is a young, aspiring filmmaker based in Kent whose creative background lies in painting. Film as a medium has always intrigued Ciara, and she’s been excited to work on her short film Top & Tail with the Short Cut Film Fund, which is inspired by her experiences as an LGBTQ teen and explores the complexities of a homoromantic friendship between two girls, capturing the awkward tension of unspoken emotions in a bedroom setting.
Chris Brown
Short Cut Film Fund 24-25 Awardee
Chris Jae Brown (he/him) is a writer, director and musician based in Essex, with a passion for telling stories that provoke thought. Chris is an alumni of the 2024 BFI Film Academy x National Film and Television School Craft Skills Residential, where he recorded/mixed sound and made a music score for the short film, Firecracker. A fascination for scores and soundscapes eventually led into a love for the wider filmmaking process, subsequently working on a number of student short films, with a drive to put his own works of art into the world.
